Engrish is what we foreigners affectionately dubbed the…. interesting English translations you can find everywhere in Japan. The more literal the translation, usually the stranger it sounds. My students and I share stories of language screw ups, them of funny Japanese (usually kanji tattoo mishaps) and me of funny English I see. Here’s a sliver of the Engrish I’ve come across in my stay here:

This was a sign in a restroom in a Tsutaya in Mito, Ibaraki (a video rental store). I still laugh til I cry when I read these!
